Black & White Packaging on Cigarette Packets
Jun 15th, 2008 by MAT.
According to this site, Britain is considering to make the cigarette pack in black and white with just the brand name. The Brits believed that a less attractive package will deter the young people from picking up the unhealthy habit of smoking.
Honestly I have my doubts. Sometimes people smokes because of peer pressure. They don’t want to feel left out when everyone else in the clan smokes. Smoking is an act of “coolness”, a symbolic behaviorism that say you are a grown up who have seen the world and an attitude of gungho-ism that silently emits the air of “I dare and I don’t care”. When smoking becomes a sub-culture, will a simple change of packaging help? Will a step-up of anti-smoking propaganda from the government and health authorities help? It will, to a certain extent to the young generation who have not picked up smoking. It will not to the die-hard smokers.
Let’s see whether the Brit will enforce the black-white packaging proposal
