Marketing Quote 7: People Want to Advertise in Bad Times
Jul 10th, 2008 by MAT.
“In good times people want to advertise, in bad times, they have to.”
- Bruce Barton, co-founder BBDO (Batten Barton, Durstine and Osborn) Agency
Haha… this is something I really really believe but I do have a hard time telling that to my clients who already felt the pinch of rising fuel price.
To some, marketing is an art and not a science. It does not guarantee financial returns. So they tend to scale back marketing when economy is not bright. One actually said “Anyway, my customers will be spending less so I see no point to advertise and promote”.
To me , advertising is both an art and a science. When a certain formula is observed, the results are almost guaranteed. These merchants in fact will find ways to step up on marketing when the economy outlook is bleak. They know their efforts will reap results and not only that, their results will be even better when the sky is cleared.
Merchants who adopt the latter view will see their companies moving from good to great and build to last.
