Marketing Quote 6: Sell People Things They Don’t Need
Jul 3rd, 2008 by MAT.
Yes, I sell people things they don’t need. I can’t, however, sell them something they don’t want. Even with advertising. Even if I were of a mind to.
~ John O’Toole
How true. Maslow had already said in his hierarchy of needs pyramid that our needs are really basic but our wants are boundless.
Come to think of it, after we have our food and shelter, we NEED little else. We don’t need Sony walkman, Mac Apple , Prata handbags and lots of the nice to have. However, we want to have them because they made us feel really good. Ego? Greed? Whatever. Our wants are limitless and that’s what oil our engines to go for that higher certification, climb further on the corporate ladder etc, etc, etcf. We are greedy for love, fame, power, money, success, this and that and lots of things.
Yes, we can be sold on what we want but we may not pay what we need.
