Saga of the London Olympic 2012 Logo
Jun 10th, 2007 by MAT
It seems that creative communities all over the world woke up on 4th June to a rude shock. They showed their disdain, annoyance and angst very vividly by hurling it all at the London Olympics 2012 logo.
There were many hiliarious comments but one that really cracked me up was it looked like “Lisa Simpson giving a blow job”.
Not so funny was an epilepsy expert claimed that part of the animated footage of the London 2012 Olympic logo had caused a number of fits. The report in The Times said the incident forced the organisers to remove part of the film. Graham Harding, an epilepsy photosensitivity expert, told BBC London News that “eight cases in which seizures have occurred. What it appears has happened is that the flash rate of the diving sequence contravenes the Ofcom guidelines.” He said that susceptibility was among people between 7 and 19 years old. The sad thing is three quarters of those who suffered from photosensitivity would do so for life!
Perhaps Wolff Ollins and his team were just thinking out of the box to create something different. Nothing wrong with that. Except that they forgot to infuse elements of national pride into the logo. You will know what I mean if you refer to the Sydney 2000, Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008.
I’m just wondering if the authorities will get the logo redesigned. What do you think? After all, there are lots of alternative designs out there.
